	Presbyterian Church (USA) condemns assault on religious freedom On 31 May 2013, the stated clerk of the Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly, the Rev. Gradye Parsons, sent a letter to the Rev. Dr Suzan Johnson Cook, United States ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom, expressing concern over the recent violations of the rights and the physical abuse of Orthodox and other Christian worshippers in Jerusalem.
	United Church of Canada boycott of Israeli firms Canada's largest Protestant church has identified three Israeli companies it may target for a boycott over the firms' operations in Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. The United Church of Canada has identified cosmetics company Ahava and home and garden goods manufacturer Keter Plastic as companies doing business in "illegal Israeli settlements," along with SodaStream, a company that makes home carbonation equipment for soft drinks.
	Conference issues statement on Christian presence in the Middle East A WCC conference has issued a joint statement calling the churches and ecumenical actors to commit themselves to support one another in prayers and actions to support Christian presence and witness in the Middle East.
	Arab Christians have built hope in hopeless situations “We do not live in the mentality of the ghetto, nor in the mentality of a minority complex, nor do we live as dhimmi (dependent) people,” said Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan. “We have always been, as Arab Christians, building our societies, loyal to our countries and nationalities, bringing hope in hopeless situations.”

	WCC general secretary condemns kidnapping of Syrian church leaders The World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary, Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, has strongly condemned the abduction of two Syrian archbishops who were kidnapped yesterday near Aleppo in Syria.

Dr Olav Fykse Tveit met in Egypt on Sunday, 21 April, with Pope Tawadros II, patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, discussing post-revolution developments in Egypt, the situation of Christians in the Arab world and ways to strengthen Christian-Muslim relations.
	WCC expresses concern at escalating violence in Egypt In a statement released on 9 April, the WCC general secretary has condemned the attacks against St Mark’s Cathedral in Cairo and killings of Christians in the village of Al-Khosous in Egypt.
