WCC and Palestine-Israel
Through the Palestine Israel Ecumenical Forum (PIEF), the World Council of Churches (WCC) will continue to convene global church networks to share responsibility for broadening and deepening church actions for peace. Long-standing WCC policiesguide the actions of PIEF including long term goals of ending the occupation, achieving national self-determination for Palestinians, and recognizing Israel’s legitimate security needs within borders agreed with its neighbours.
The immediate purpose of these actions initiatives is to influence policy changes in the Middle East and especially in the Israel/Palestine conflict, while contributing to a new and comprehensive framework for ecumenical advocacy on the Middle East. Churches are united by their global ecumenical identity and work with shared messages and resources such as prayers, educational activities or advocacy with governments.
